Lee Cooper

In 1908 Morris Cooper opened a plant in London.
He was making denim jeans for manual workers.
On August 4, 1914 German Army invaded Belgium.
Great Britain declared war against Germany.
There were needed battle fatigues and the Company manufactured military clothing.
Since 1931 the enterprise operated as M Cooper Overalls Limited.
The main product were men's trousers with braces, made of heavyweight denim.
In 1940 Great Britain was in a state of war with Germany again.
Morris Cooper was killed in a car accident.
British government requisitioned Cooper's factories to make military uniforms.
In 1946 the uniforms were no longer needed.
Harold, the son of Morris Cooper returned from the army.
He took over the Company and renamed it Lee Cooper.
Casual wear became the main product.
The world changed. Women became independent and had got money.
Such an attractive group of customers could not be ignored.
Denim jeans for women and children appeared.
The enterprise exists still today. It makes traditional jeanswear and combat trousers.
On May 4, 2005 the British discount retailer Matalan PLC sold Lee Cooper Group
to the investment fund Sun Capital Partners Inc.
